Toshiba stops being just a spectator of how Apple enchants people with iPad and starts working hard on creating iPad rivals.

According to Jeff Barney, head of Toshiba’s U.S. notebook business, Japanese electronic giant is planning to enter the market of multimedia tablets or “slates” with both Google Android and Windows 7 operating system. Although there is not much insight into technical characteristics of the products it is known  that the Android version will actually cost less than its Windows 7 counterpart but will have enough wide functionality. Devices with Windows 7 will represent a flagman sector of Toshiba and possess such unique elements as additional display. It is supposed that Android units would come with a 10-inch screen.

The release of new multimedia devices from the Japanese manufacturer is expected in the end of a current year or at the beginning of 2011.

HP, Nortion Ink and soon Toshiba, but it is still curious if Toshiba will manage to give a worthy dare to iPad.
